NPCs & Enemies - Guide and clothier interactions with their voodoo dolls (2024)

Players might find themselves in a situation where they would go to the guide to ask them about this doll that looks a lot like him. Currently, the guide does not have any special interaction, which seems very weird. I have proposed some unique dialogue for when you talk to him with the guide voodoo doll in your inventory or when equipped:

• "Is that… a doll of me? I hope you're not planning anything… drastic."
• "That doll gives me the creeps. Please tell me you're just carrying it as a joke."
• "You wouldn’t believe it, but I felt a sudden wave of scorching heat a while ago. Are you sure that doll doesn't have anything to do with it?"

Similar lines can also be used for when you talk to the clothier with the clothier voodoo doll equipped. Here are a few dialogue options for when you talk to him with the clothier voodoo doll equipped:

• "That doll in your possession… It’s as if I can feel the weight of the curse all over again. I hope you know what you’re doing."
• "You’ve found a voodoo doll that looks just like me? Be wary—summoning old curses can lead to disastrous consequences."
• "I can sense dark magic emanating from that doll. Handle it with care, or you might awaken something terrible."

"dont throw this in lava you will unleash horrors beyond you comprehension"

this would be a great way to show that these dolls have significance, i would also love an extra line for the guide

"My ancient guide ancestors had tales of them dying to a sudden fire after seeing a doll of themselves... i hope you're not plotting something"

I think him referencing his ancestors would be a great way for the official lore to be put into the game:

• According to the official game lore, there is an organization called "Order of the Guide", whose purpose is to preserve old legends and knowledge. It's likely that the Guide is a member of this order.
  • This is referenced in-game after beating the Wall of Flesh, with any new Guides that spawn in afterward referencing their predecessor suddenly bursting into flames.

I feel like @Yousef the H 's quote would fit better for the guide, while still informing the effects of the doll on the guide

But random's idea is funnier and as such just as good.

That's true actually, I think some rewording would be fine for the Guide. Could go either way for that
The Clothier doesn't really say anything though, there's nothing really hinting towards the Clothier doll's existence and he seems pretty indifferent about it

Yes, there is one line where he says that everything needed to summon the WoF is in hell. And that a sacrifice is needed to summon him. He does not mention the voodoo doll in this dialogue:

• "When you are ready to challenge the keeper of the underworld, you will have to make a living sacrifice. Everything you need for it can be found in the underworld."

How about these:

• "It seems you have found a doll that looks just like me… If you are planning to use me as the sacrifice to summon the keeper of the Underworld, i cannot guarantee that you will come out of there alive."
• "Carrying that doll makes me uneasy. If you’re thinking about making an offering, just remember… some doors, once opened, can’t be closed."
• "Holding that doll feels like holding fate in your hands. The keeper of the underworld demands a sacrifice—just make sure you’re ready for what comes next."
